Movers and Shakers: Openings and New Hires at MatchCraft, Verve and McClatchy
Every two weeks, Kelly Benish — who knows practically everyone in hyperlocal — covers some of the latest job changes taking place in this dynamic industry. (Plus, scroll down for jobs on offer now.)
Chris Trares – McClatchy
I first met Chris Trares when he was director of sales at Stephens Media Digital, and at the time he resided in Las Vegas. Since then we’ve kept in touch and I’ve tracked his career as he took roles at Boost Media and The Daily Progress to transform their digital approach in advertising and sales. This brought Chris and his wife to Virginia and later Charlotte, North Carolina where they currently reside. Chris was just brought on by McClatchy Interactive as their digital sales development manager and they couldn’t have chosen a better candidate. Congratulations Chris!
Geoff Michener – MatchCraft
Geoff Michener was most recently the co-founder and CEO of ProspectWise, a crowdsourced platform for local business surveying. He recently left to join MatchCraft, a leading paid search self-managing platform in the space. The great part for Geoff is that he gets to work with some of the most talented people in our industry; Sean Greene, Brad Petersen and Ced Simpson. MatchCraft has been in serious expansion mode since Advance Internet acquired them in 2014, and have hired key talent in training and sales.
David Wade – Verve
Verve has announced that David Wade (entrepreneur and ad-sales veteran) will be the company’s first senior VP of market development in the US western region. David is responsible for growing Verve’s west coast sales team as well as strengthening the expanding customer base He most recently founded Marvelous Advisors and advises several startups; he has over 15 years of national advertising sales and marketing strategy at Conde Nast (Vanity Fair, Jane) and Dennis Publishing (Maxim, Stuff, Blender, The Week). David has also served as co-founder and president of Popdust, a digital destination that allowed pop music devotees direct access to their pop idols, like Katy Perry, One Direction, and Justin Bieber.
John Paton – Cxense
Cxense recently brought Digital First Media CEO John Paton onto their advisory board where he joins the ranks of former Schibsted CEO Kjell Aamot. Their responsibilities include providing strategic advice on their existing products and relationships. As the CEO of the second largest newspaper company in the US, Paton is charged with managing hundreds of products around 76 publications with an overall audience of 75 million customers. Paton’s background includes serving on the boards of The Guardian, PRISA and El Pais. He is also involved as an advisor to The Columbia Journalism Review and the City University of New York Graduate School of Journalism.
Also on the move: RealMatch just brought on Chris Cordery as VP of sales; Chris was formerly VP of sales at IBM… Nicole Bogas was recently brought on by North Carolina-based newspaper Our State Magazine as their retail products specialist. She comes over from Blogads, where she was their director of sales and client services. Best of luck to you Nicole!… Rick Courville just became the CEO of Digital Moxie Marketing; he recently left his role as director of sales and market expansion and I had the good fortune of meeting him years prior when he was at Ballentine Digital Media. Wishing Rick the best!
