MULO Hotel Brands Go Glamping

Share this:

We recently wrote about how many multi-location (MULO) hospitality brands are getting into the extended-stay space to meet the needs of business travelers, digital nomads, and other transient professionals.  Not only major hotel brands providing these creature comforts but they are also putting guests closer to real creatures with their entrance into the glamping (upscale camping) space.

According to a recent report in Thrillist, some of the major MULO hotel companies have realized that the adventure and outdoors market is the place to be.

Hilton

Hilton customers and Hilton Honors members can earn and redeem points at all AutoCamp locations across the United States, including Sonoma, Yosemite National Park, Cape Cod, Joshua Tree, Catskills, Zion National Park, and Sequoia. AutoCamp offers custom-designed Airstreams, luxury tents, and cabins at these locations.

In some cases, they are embarking on this journey with help from other hospitality brands that are already serving this market.

  • Marriott Bonvoy members will be able to directly book one of the 1,200 “Postcard Cabins” in 29 properties. Marriott is also developing its own luxury safari camps.
  • Hyatt has Under Canvas resorts, the ULUM Moab, and camps in Yosemite and Columbia River Gorge.
  • Hilton has a microsite dedicated to its glamping options. Autocamp stays count towards Hilton Honors points, making the great outdoors (including trailers) even more enticing to the traveler.
  • BWH is just entering the glamping market. The company’s current portfolio includes Best Western Hotels & Resorts, WorldHotels, and SureStay. Their tents, cabins, and even covered wagons give glampers a comfy place to stay in the rugged outdoors.

The adventure tourism market is estimated to be worth $800 billion globally and is expected to grow to over $1 trillion within the next six years.

About 34 percent of new campers today consider themselves “glampers.” Those professionals who can WFA (work-from-anywhere) can combine their travels with a bit of adventure while still having access to wi-fi, coffee makers, and showers.

So, if you happen to see a bear in the background on a ZOOM or Teams meeting, perhaps your colleague or manager is taking advantage of this new trend with hospitality brands.
