A Street Fight Trend-Spotter Walked Into a Bar ….
Well, not exactly. We attended the Bar & Restaurant Expo in Las Vegas to check out trends and products for the MULO (multi-location) bar and restaurant ecosystem.
The trends we spotted include:
- Although liquor is still popular, mocktails are having a moment. Studies indicate that Americans are choosing moderation in their drinking habits and non-alcoholic beverage alternatives are growing in popularity.
- That said, espresso martinis and tequila appear to be the popular alcoholic beverages for 2025.
- Bars have gone digital and interactive. Over the next few weeks, we’ll delve deeper into some of the AI and other automation being incorporated into this industry’s operations. In the interim, here are some of the highlights.
- Robot cooks, cleaners, and servers abounded at the Expo. We were even served a cocktail by a robot bartender (who didn’t want to listen to our problems, but was very efficient and poured an excellent, measured drink).
- Bowling has made a comeback, as more bars and restaurants turn to entertainment to attract a wide range of consumers. Digital arcade games, tech-powered karaoke nights, and DJs add to the buzz.
- POS system alternatives are becoming more sophisticated and have incorporated a wide range of other functionalities to benefit owners, guests, and servers.
- Vending machines (for snacks, vapes, and other “necessities) are tech-powered.
- Staff training (see below) has also moved online. Although the live huddle is still alive and well, MULO brands can now benefit from remote gatherings.
- Despite all the AI and technology within the bar and restaurant ecosystem, emphasis is also being placed on staff training and service. Negative people reviews in this industry are as damning as bad food reviews. Operators are aware of that and are stepping up the speed of service, smiles, and thank yous.
- The bartender as performer is alive and well. Humans (not robot bartenders) showed off their mad skills for a cheering audience. Technology will never replace good old-fashioned entertainment.
We all spotted some of the trends within the event industry itself, which we will be applying to Street Fight LIVE 2025.
The perfect mix of a great location, terrific educational and inspirational speakers, guest-friendly technologies, and off-hours entertainment and activities are essential in today’s experiential marketing world and SFL 2025 (like a fun bar and entertainment center) will not disappoint!
