Openings & New Hires at Yellowbot, LiveIntent, Village Voice, and Groupon
Every two weeks, Search Influence’s Kelly Benish — who knows practically everyone in hyperlocal — covers some of the latest job changes taking place in this dynamic industry. (Plus, scroll down for jobs on offer now.)
Matt Booth – Yellowbot
After a 7+-year stint as chief strategy officer at BIA/Kelsey, the one and only Matt Booth is becoming CEO of reputation management & directory platform Solfo/Yellowbot. Matt’s new focus at Yellowbot will be around building SaaS business tools while helping to build some unique products with their engineering team. Matt is well-known in the local space for his insight at conferences, consultancy, and strategy work.
Stephen McLaughlin – LiveIntent
I met Steve McLaughlin at Street Fight Summit when he was director of business operations for digital at the NY Daily News. I approached him on the basis of partnership, and we had a refreshingly candid conversation. LiveIntent, the real-time advertising exchange for email, just snatched Steve up as their VP of client services and they should count their blessings that they have him on board.
Tom Finkel – Village Voice
Just two months after the Village Voice‘s editor and deputy editor walked out over proposed staff cuts, Voice Media Group has brought on Tom Finkel, the editor of the Riverfront Times in St. Louis, to take the helm as the storied alt-weekly’s new top editor. The Voice has seen a slew of challenges recently, including resignations, mass layoffs, and a relocation from its iconic New York offices. I caught up with the Voice’s team at the AAN conference last week in Miami and it seemed as if they were on to some new initiatives on the digital side.
Dean Starkman – GoLocal
GoLocal24, which has local digital news outlets in Providence and Worcester, has announced that Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Dean Starkman has come aboard as a contributor and editor-at-large. Starkman, who has written for the Wall Street Journal, The Providence Journal and CJR among others, has a long track record of financial, media, and investigative reporting. He helped lead the ProJo to the Pulitzer for investigations in 1994. In addition to contributing to GoLocal, he’ll continue writing for CJR and other outlets.
Murray McQueen – Tribune Co.
Tribune has announced the appointment of Murray McQueen to the newly created position of President/Real Estate, responsible for the strategic development of the company’s portfolio of more than seven million square feet of real estate assets, including the historic Tribune Tower in Chicago and Times Mirror Square in downtown Los Angeles. He also will oversee the management of all property leasing activities. McQueen assumes his new duties immediately. McQueen was a co-founder and managing partner of Channel West Group, established in 2011 to act as operating partner in principal transactions and perform advisory and asset management work involving complex real estate structures and asset repositioning.
Michael Sattler & Rick Graham- Punchey
Punchey Inc., the company that makes it easy & cost effective for small businesses to accept transactions via mobile or desktop, announced its hiring of Michael Sattler as VP of Engineering, and of Rick Graham as Director of Demand Generation. Sattler has 20 years of serial entrepreneurship & startup consulting. Graham comes with a long history of working on the corporate financial world, then later as a technologist. The news comes on the heels of Punchey’s launch out of beta in June.
