Google Relocates Marissa Mayer; ‘Local’ Has Arrived
Marissa, search will surely miss ya…
We’re not a breaking news kinda place, but this bears mentioning (thanks Bloomberg). Longtime Google search product lead and sometimes media darling Marissa Mayer is making an internal move to manage location and local services, where Google hopes for big new dollars.
We believe this is the first major role change for Marissa since she began there in 1999. It’s certainly a good one – search is so yesterday anyway. Some will see it as a bit of a demotion but we location bulls think otherwise.
What might this mean for all the players battling for share of the geo-social-local pie? It’s going to get interesting.
