tr224Yelp’s Chairman of the Board Departs
Max Levchin, a co-founder of Paypal and an initial seed investor in Yelp, has left Yelp as Chairman of the Board. Levchin said he is making the move to focus on his more recent venture, Affirm, which recently raised $275 million in funding. Levchin’s departure is interesting because Yelp is in a difficult state. After disappointing earnings in Q2, Yelp’s stock plummeted 28% this week. As visitor growth to the reviews site increases, sales continue to fall. Rumors have spread over the past few months of a potential sale of Yelp; Google and Yahoo could be potential buyers. Stay tuned.

Shakeups and Drama at HubSpot
HubSpot, a marketing and sales software company, laid out some drama Wednesday evening. Mike Volpe, HubSpot’s CMO, was dismissed from the company this week due to ethical violations. Allegations are swirling that he had tried to obtain the manuscript of a book being published about the Boston-based company by former employee Dan Lyons. Meanwhile, internal marketing guru, Kipp Bodnar, was promoted to CMO.

Homejoy Shuts Down, Google Swipes Up Talent
On-demand home cleaning service, Homejoy, is shutting down after potential lawsuits relating to the contractor/sharing economy legal conundrum. As Homejoy shut its doors, Google has snapped up some top talent from the company’s product and tech team. The hires have led to speculation over whether Google is planning to jump into the home cleaning business. Regardless, the on-demand economy is here to stay so the talent acquisition is a good move by Google.

NOMi Hires Applied Predictive Technologies Exec as CFO
Financial veteran, Jeff Babka, has left Applied Predictive Technologies (acquired by MasterCard) to join NOMi as CFO. Before APT, Babka had served as CFO at Vibrant Media, Sophos and Neustar, where he lead Neustar’s efforts in support of its $700M IPO as well as its $700M follow-on offering. NOMi was acquired late last year by Brickstream.
