Users who unlock the Time-Foursquare badge get “access to a curated list of must-attend venues and events,” plus convention tips from Time reporters.

LBS App Highlight: The Startup Everyone Is Saying Will Win SXSW This Year (Business Insider)
This year, everyone is buzzing about auto-checkins, app-induced networking, and people discovery. Robert Scoble, Mashable and TechCrunch have declared Highlight, a new mobile app, the sure-fire winner this year.

Newspapers: It’s Not a Revenue Problem, It’s a Culture Problem (GigaOm)
Mathew Ingram: A sense of inertia and the fear of failure are two of the biggest stumbling blocks holding some newspaper chains back from disrupting their own businesses instead of standing by and watching while others disrupt them. Startups have no legacy business to disrupt, so they don’t have to worry about the impact on their bottom line (since most don’t have one of those either), and the best are not afraid of failure. If anything, they seek it out, so they can learn from it.

Sonar Comes to Android, Shows You Who Is Nearby (Mashable)
Whereas previous versions of the app have focused on making connections within specific Foursquare venues, the new Android app uses “nearby” in a more relative sense. Instead of relying solely on Foursquare for location data, it brings Facebook and Twitter into the mix in order to cast a wider net.

A SoMoLo App For Augmented Reality Fans: Wallit (TechCrunch)
The new app lets users check in at particular locations and leave messages for others; but also has the added bonus of letting users add augmented reality-style photos to get their points across more visually.

Alt Weeklies Eye an AP of Their Own With a Content Exchange (Nieman Lab)
The recently launched AltWeeklies Content Exchange lets papers like the Boston Phoenix, Minneapolis’ City Pages or Oakland’s East Bay Express swap stories, photos, video, or other interactive multimedia to bolster their coverage of national news.
