Openings & New Hires at Yelp, Groupon, Local.com, Viddy and more

Every two weeks, Search Influence’s Kelly Benish — who knows practically everyone in hyperlocal — covers some of the latest job changes taking place in this dynamic industry. (Plus, scroll down for jobs on offer now.)

Jeff Hoyer — Local Market Launch
Santa Barbara-based startup Local Market Launch, provider of local presence services for national brands and multi-location businesses, announced my former colleague Jeff Hoyer as its new VP of sales. Jeff will lead the company’s sales efforts, with a focus on channel partner development among local media companies such as publishers and broadcast companies. I’ve seen him in action as SVP of sales at UBL and he knows every publisher there is. LML is lucky to have you!

Sri Viswanath — Groupon
Groupon brought on Sri Viswanath as its SVP of engineering and operations last week, as part of the beleaguered company’s investment in a broad assortment of local commerce tools and services for merchants. The hope is that Sri will help them get back on track with some new initiatives. Before Groupon, Sri was the head of VMware‘s mobile R&D efforts.

Tracy Smith — Acquisio
Acquisio has certainly acquired some great new talent this month, including the well-known Tracy Smith who has made a move from VP of performance marketing at Yellow Pages Group (YPG) where he worked with the famous Darby Sieben. While at YPG, he worked to assemble the team that built Canada’s superpower on SEM and SEO. This is a friendly transition as YPG made a strategic investment in Acquisio two years ago.

Marc Poirier — (also) Acquisio
The loyal Marc Poirier, co-founder and EVP of business development with over a DECADE at Acquisio is not only a 17 year veteran in the online marketing industry but he is a genuinely nice person. While he will continue to be involved with the product and marketing teams, Poirier will now dedicate most of his time to building relationships and creating opportunities with strategic partners and clients in existing and new markets. Like a boss, Poirier.

Chris Ovitz — Viddy
Yowza. Scandal involving spam allegations have surrounded Viddy and now co-founder Chris Ovitz is taking a reduced, part-time role at the startup, with plans to eventually leave the company altogether, according to sources familiar with the matter. The mobile video startup decided to become more socially oriented this year (remember those Socialcam/spam videos that showed up in your Facebook feed? e.g. eye-catching viral title “world’s biggest pimple pop.” It was like a train wreck that you just had to watch.) Ovitz’s co-founder JJ Aguhob says they have nothing but love for Chris.

Kendra Wiig — Street Fight
Marketing expert Kendra Wiig decided to hop over to leading integrated media company Street Fight (yes, this very site!). Prepare for mortal combat in the media space because Kendra is about to kill it. With experience in formulating the marketing frontier for Perry EvansClose.ly and hyperlocal publisher Examiner.com, Kendra was everything Street Fight was hoping for and more. Go Kendra!
